In most situations, you don't need a layer of foam under the coils. If your slats are more than 3" apart, you'll need to do something to keep the coils from bulging between the slats. Here are a couple suggestions:

  1. Buy some 1"x2" boards that you set in between the existing slats (Home Depot or Lowes should both be willing to cut them to length for a nominal charge).
  2. Put a sheet of peg board down on top of your slats.

Putting a layer of foam under the coils might work, but will be less effective than the suggestions above.

Yes.

Nope! Putting a layer of foam or latex between the coils will change the coil performance. We don't recommend it. That said... it's DIY, so You do You!

LESS IS MORE with a pocket coil mattress.

You don’t need 18 layers on top of your pocket coil unit. Keep it simple and let the coils work in the way they were designed to.

The more layers you add, the more you take away from the isolated support. We tested and liked the following build 8” / 15.5 gauge / 3” QuadMini / 2” latex / a cover with stretch. We've heard from some customers that they like up to 3" of latex/foam on top of the QuadMini, but anything more than that and you're probably wasting your money.

Due to the coil density and the QuadCoil design, our units run on the firmer side. Assuming you are average weight and a back or side sleeper, we suggest 15.5 gauge. It also works well for lighter stomach sleepers. Our 15.5g is very resilient and you will not bottom out.

If you're an over 200lbs stomach sleeper or over 230lbs back/side sleeper, we also sell a more firm 14.75 gauge coil spring.

We compress and roll our units for shipping. We do not compress, fold and roll. We realize there are companies who sell single units and do this, but we believe folding a single pocket coil unit will damage the coil and compromise the integrity of the coil.

Not folding the units raises our shipping costs a bit, but it's worth it. The fold and roll machines were made for finished mattresses, not individual pocket coil units.

The units can stay in the compressed state for months without damaging the coils, so don't worry if they arrive before you're ready to use them.

Yes, we are the ONLY official single unit store for Texas Pocket Springs units.

Most people will find our coils last 15+ years. If you find that you're the type that wears out normal mattresses quickly, they should still last you 10+ years. These coils will outlast your other layers 2-3x.

And no, you never need to flip the coils. When a coil compresses, it both sides of the spring experience the same amount of tension. Flipping mattresses has more to do with extending the life of the foam/latex comfort layers, not the springs.

Shipping

If the items you ordered are in stock, we get them shipped within 2-4 business days. Once Fedex has your order, it can take 1-5 days to deliver it to you based on where in the country you live.

Yes. Additional shipping charges apply. Please contact us before placing your order if you live in Hawaii.

The short answer is "no" because of the complexities around customs on imports. We've heard from some Canadian customers that there are US based companies that can provide a you a US address for us to use, then they take care of getting the packages to your address in Canada. We don't have any specific recommendations on companies to use, but you're a DIYer, so with a bit of research and Reddit, you'll figure it out :)

Other

There are NO returns. We stand behind our product 100%. If it arrives damaged, we will replace it or send you the material to guarantee your complete satisfaction. Unfortunately we do not refund or replace units after they have been used. There is too much variability in how someone constructs their DIY build.

You can contact us through our contact page! We will be happy to assist you.
